There are times in life where one needs some pure indulgence, times when we have to forget the healthy eating, and times when an individual needs to feel, if only for a few seconds, that they are living in the lap of luxury. The recent “10 best” list in the daily Independant captured me immediately with a salivating smile as it listed an amazing assortment of the most amazing cupcakes that I’d seen in my life.
Remembering my trip to the Big Apple and the incredible tasting cupcakes from Magnolia’s Bakery in Downtown NY (featured in Sex and the City) I have set it my devoted attention to seek down and consume as many cupcakes as possible – with the hope of finding Britain’s best cupcake. Magnolia’s were a feat of genius, rich, moist cake with a butter-esc icing that melted sublimely in the mouth to cause a body hugging emotion. It seemed just right, one could even say perfection. But will I manage to find anything of the like here?! Christine is visiting in Nov and it would be very cute to be able to take her to get her a cupcake here, a little tradition in the making.

Yesterday was step one, number 10 on the list was Waitrose own brand cupcakes….and after a cupcake dash to the local I settled down to inspire my taste buds. I was disappointed. The cake wasn’t as rich, or as moist. The icing cracked off in hard little shards whilst being pink and pretty it was too sweet, it just wasn’t the same. There are 9 places left on the list and over the next month I must work my way through all of them. If only men were as easy as cupcakes – you could go buy one, taste it, and if it didn’t fit simply move on the next on the list until you found the perfect one. In this latter case he’d be sickly sweet, too much in one go, I should have just stuck with Magnolia’s, dark, creamy, rich, just right!!
