A Fruitless Task

  • Mood: Hopeful

It seems as if my path across the pond and towards the big apple may prove a little harder than initially imagined. Trawling the web for information proved too much of a fruitless and unfulfilling task as nowhere could I actually find a concise and structured document pertaining to the information that I require. I don’t expect a move to the US to be easy, far from it, organising the logistics here in England & finding a new job will be challenging as it is, but with little or no information I feel like I’m on my treadmill, running as fast as possible but not actually getting anywhere. My energy’s at the ready, willing to burst into action, but there’s nowhere for it all to go!

My American girl found out that there was a green card lottery but it seems, after a little rummage through the site, that I am not eligible, no British natives are. This seems extremely odd to me, haven’t we always politically, if not emotionally, been allies yet we can’t even move there?! I don’t want to go and scrounge the benefits, I want to go, make a home for myself, earn a decent and lawful living, and maybe, just perhaps, fall in love. Though, New York being the greatest city I’ve ever visited, I know that I’m already in love with at least one concrete jungle. Its strange how, even me, a country bumpkin at heart and clawing the walls to escape smog ridden London, once in New York and my entire perception to cities was changed in an instant.

Time being on my side I will pop into the American Embassy tomorrow and see if I might find a willing and friendly person to help me in my quest. Perhaps they might enlighten me where the internet has failed.
